Friday Fun-day: Leaf Hunt Art Project

Leaf Hunt Art Project

Posted by Sarah M. White

Collecting leaves is a great toddler activity-- it encourages them to observe the natural world and distinguish between different colors, shapes and textures. We like to search for leaves and find different-colored leaves. You can collect leaves on a walk around the block or at a park. You can use a bag, hands, or pockets to carry the leaves.

When you get home, get out some paper and glue and teach your kiddo how to use a glue stick. We didn't have any purple glue sticks, but I think that kind would be the best for this activity so that they are able to see that some glue has transferred to the paper or leaf.

They can glue the leaves on in their own pattern, or, you can draw a tree and they can glue the leaves on the branches or on the ground around the tree. If your child is older, he could draw his own fall scene and add leaves to it.

Anything left can go in a "nature box," a shoe box for collecting nature samples like leaves, sticks, rocks, shells, driftwood, feathers, etc.

What other activities or projects have you tried with leaves? Happy fall!
