Lunch at in a dome at Brix Cidery

Since last March our kids have dined out only a handful of times, and only when the weather allowed for patio dining. With the arrival of winter weather, that put a stop to their restaurant visits until I realized that some restaurants have done their best to create warm, safe, "outdoor" dining experiences. This past weekend we tried out dining in a "dome" at Brix Cider in Mt. Horeb.

Dining in a dome requires some advance planning and added cost. At Brix (and most other locations with domes) a timed reservation and a fee for heating seems to be the norm. I reserved a lunch slot for Saturday and we arrived shortly before our reservation time to place our order inside the restaurant. We then made our way to our dome with our drinks and waited for our food to be made and brought to the dome.

Brix has one clear igloo-like dome in addition to some shanties and pop-up tents. Our dome was plenty warm with the winter sunshine and the propane heater - if anything, I was too warm! My kids enjoyed the novelty of being in an "igloo" and getting a chance to go out to eat.

Once our hour was up we took a moment to explore the snowy area around the Military Ridge Trail, which goes right past Brix.

Be sure to bring along toys or even snacks if your kids are "out of practice" with dining at a restaurant! Brix has kid-friendly food, but our kids aren't used to sitting and waiting at the table for their food as much as they were before.
